JOURNALIST TO KNOW: SADE MOORE
SHEER: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
SADE MOORE: I’m originally from New Orleans, Louisiana and currently reside in Los Angeles, California. My mom is African-American and was born and raised in New Orleans. My dad was born in Nicaragua and raised in New Orleans. I am a proud Afro Latino by DNA but identify as a black woman.
SHEER: How did you land your first opportunity with Sheen Magazine and how has your career evolved since joining the team?
SM: I built my resume working at a small entertainment blog. I got started with Sheen magazine by attending a cover release party and met the editor-in-chief that night. We stayed in touch and I reached out to her a year or two later after trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my communications degree. From there, I went through the interview and media training process. Everything went well and they welcomed me on the team! My career has evolved overtime as I build a credible name in the industry and I’ve met a lot of industry professionals who I respect.
SHEER: Who have you enjoyed interviewing or featuring the most as a journalist and why?
SM: I’ve enjoyed everyone I’ve gotten an opportunity to meet and it’s always a pleasure to sit and talk to anyone about their journey to their success. I must say Syleena Johnson’s interview did stick with me as she shared how important self care and love is and the empowerment of women. I felt like many women needed to hear those encouraging words. I really enjoyed our conversation and respect what she stands for.
SHEER: What qualities do you believe are essential in finding success in the media and entertainment industries?
SM: Endurance and patience. You have to do it because you love it. There will be many times when you may feel like giving up. What gets me through are prayers, hard work, and perseverance. I keep striving and setting new goals for myself.
SHEER: How does your faith and career journey intersect?
SM: I take risks yes but I still pray and get lead by the Spirit. I don’t believe in doing anything if it doesn’t sit well with me. I am a follower of Jesus Christ and will forever be a follower of Christ and nothing will ever come against that. I give all the credit and praise to Him.
SHEER: What part of your creative process brings you the most joy?
SM: I love sharing people’s stories. I’ve had experiences where people have cried because of how much they appreciate me publishing their stories. I love providing happiness for them and giving them something to feel proud of. It’s very humbling for me.
SHEER: What advice would you give women of color looking to find their voice and make their mark in the media industry?
SM: My advice is to be proud of yourself and know that your voice and contributions matter. Never feel like you don’t belong because you do. Stand in honor for all those women before you who didn’t get the opportunity. Wear your crown and be an example for young women to come. There’s no right or wrong way to be. it’s about embracing what makes you unique. Be your best and authentic self.
SHEER: What do you look forward to next in your creative journey?
SM: I look forward to more traveling and exploring the world and hopefully more print publications , features, and interviews while collaborating with my For(bes) The Culture community!
